A chat with Håkan at Mantum

A few days ago, when driver Håkan Svensson, was servicing his truck in our workshop, we took the opportunity to have a chat with him about his career choice. Håkan drives for Mantum in Varberg and has many years of experience on the roads.

"I started working as a driver in the late 80s. For many years, I combined the profession with my career as a goalkeeper in Allsvenskan (Halmstad BK and AIK)."

Today, Håkan is a football coach and works as a driver from Wednesday to Wednesday, with every other week off. He covers various routes and often stays on the road for a whole week.

"Today, I have the entire truck loaded with Christmas soda that Ill continue with once the truck is ready here," he tells us.

Whats the best thing about the job of a driver?
Freedom! I like that you get to manage yourself, and there are constantly new environments, people and challenges ahead. Its in my blood, and for me, its a lifestyle. Mantum, my employer, also has a very receptive management, and they are happy to bounce ideas off me. They use my experience, knowledge and expertise, which makes you feel involved.

What qualities are good to have as a driver?
Being a problem solver. It might seem like a job for an unsocial person, but I dont think thats true with todays technology. I have a lot of phone contact with colleagues and other people when Im on the road.

What do you prefer to listen to in the truck?
Music, audiobooks and the Swedish radio program "Sommarprat".

Whats the best food along the roads?
I rarely bring my own food and appreciate getting out of the truck when its time to eat. It can be difficult to find good food, but I prefer Swedish home-cooked meals.

Do you have any tips for younger people considering this profession?
Its good if you are a bit interested in cars. If you want a job, its definitely a good choice because theres a generation shift happening. I really want to emphasize that there has been a fantastic development in trucks - if you like innovation and technology. Its fun, and you have a very comfortable workplace.

Håkan drives a Scania, purchased here at Scanvo, about two years ago.

We thank Håkan for the visit, and we hope to see him soon again!
